Dressing Up for Live Poker

Article by www.pokerlistings.com | May 29, 2008

Hordes of poker players indulge in bad manners and bad clothing. While you take their money, why not prove the finer points of a handsome suit, polished shoes and elegance!

Poker players have to be among the nuttier fusionists on the planet. Check out any poker tournament to confirm this. Whether honing an image or trying to cultivate a strategy, dressing for playing poker at casinos is an intangible part of the game.

I Wear My Sunglasses at Night

Sometimes a live poker tournament will look like a room full of hipsters. A plethora of club-like scenesters all decked out in sporty sunglasses, even though everyone's inside. Or maybe a convention of Men In Black copiers. In any case, poker and sunglasses go together like peanut butter and jelly. Do you really have to ask why? Hiding your eyes is one way not to reveal anything to other players at the table.

There is no portal into the soul like the eyes. The eyes reveal truth. That's why a father will tell his son to look him in the eyes. The person can look another person in the eyes who is telling the truth.

This does not serve poker players well whether they are bluffing or holding the stone cold nuts. Many players can look another person directly in the eye and lie with a straight face, no qualms.

This does not come easy to everyone. Thus, all the sunglasses you see at poker tournaments. It is perfectly legal to conceal one's eyes, and many people take advantage of the camouflage.

But most of all, of course, sunglasses are a matter of personal style. Please make sure yours are an addition to the overall refinement factor in the room. There are enough horrible sunglasses around those tables already.

A Little Music, Maestro

Many players have no interest in the dull conversation of a casino poker table. Who wants to listen to other players whine about bad beats? Who wants to hear others gossip and call each other names?

That's why many players bring a music player to the table. Listening to music is within the regulations of most live tournaments and many players take advantage of this perk. What's wrong with entertaining yourself anyway you know of? Sessions are often long and tiring. Use all means to fight fatigue.

Again, some music players and head phones are classier than others. Obviously you will consider music an essential part of your live poker wardrobe, and you'll beat the 1987 Sony Walkmans by miles.

Don't Forget Comfort

After elegance, the second most important thing when dressing for live poker is comfort. Live poker games, especially tournaments, can last for a long time. The name of the game is elegant comfort.

Don't dress in anything that doesn't fit or will leave you feeling hot or cold. Tailor-made is always better than pręt-a-porter. By the way, this is just as true for online poker as well. When at home, behave as if among people, and all that.

The last thing you want is to drop out of a tournament because your underwear is on too tight. Expensive is always better than cheap.

The point is to wear whatever makes you feel comfortable, while looking absolutely smashing at the table!
